Our Fioretti Safeguarding Statement: ratified by Ethos & Achievement Committee (July 2024)

Each school within the Fioretti Trust has a dedicated designated safeguarding lead (DSL) who is appointed to take lead responsibility for child protection issues in each school. The Senior DSL for each school is supported by further trained DSL colleagues.

At times, especially for 'supervision' sessions (which the Trust encourages to take place termly as a bare minimum - and more frequently if required) the DSL's across the schools work collaboratively.

The Senior DSL in each school:

  • works with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure safeguarding is at the heart of the school ethos and that all staff are supported in knowing how to recognise and respond to potential concerns;
  • liaises with the Headteacher to keep them informed of any safeguarding issues especially ongoing enquiries and police investigations;
  • liaises, as required, with the local authority case manager or the designated officer at the local authority if a concern has arisen regarding a member of staff;
  • liaises with staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and when deciding whether to make a referral by liaising with relevant agencies; and
  • acts as a source of support, advice and expertise for staff.

Each school has a governor appointed with a specific responsibility for Safeguarding.

The Head of Trust reports (on a termly basis) to the Trust Board in regards to Safeguarding practice across the Trust.

Spotlight on our Head of Safeguarding

Sarah Campbell
Swords

I began my teaching career at St Mary’s 17 years ago as a student teacher. Ever since joining St Mary’s it has been my aim to be the best teacher I can be and make a difference to the lives of the pupils in my care. As part of the St Mary’s family I have flourished and grown and I am now the school's Deputy Headteacher. More recently, I was given the privilege of becoming Safeguarding Lead and quickly realised I am exactly where I need to be. Throughout my career, Safeguarding and the wellbeing of pupils and staff have always been my priority, it is also now something I am extremely passionate about. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to be the Head of Safeguarding for the Trust and feel this will give me the opportunity to share my passion across all three schools. I aim to be a supportive, caring, understanding leader and work with staff to ensure we have outstanding practices and systems in place to keep the children, parents and staff of the Fioretti Trust safe, happy and learning.
